Hare in his Hole

This little guy was inspired while visiting my son at his ranch in Paso Robles. As I got out of my car I noticed the little fellow’s hole a few feet away. He was certainly not afraid of me, and continued coming out and going back in with the berries I left near the opening.
He was created in acrylic and then for a textural earthy effect, since he lives in the ground, I collected little bits of wood from around his hole, and applied them with paint to the canvas. Then painted the little sticks to incorporate them into the painting, which transformed the acrylic painting to a mixed media piece.
He is a cutie and I have to smile when I look at him.
