Acrylics have come into the art world after tentative use by many artists to speed up their production. After using this media the artist either likes the quick dry or goes back to the slower process of oil. Acrylic is a form of plastic. It dries very quickly and sometimes needs an addition of a slow drying mixture to give the artist the buttery feel of oil. The colors use to be quite strong and you could spot an acrylic because of this. Now the newer paints have oil like quality of depth and blend to produce a wide range of color saturations. You have to work quickly when using acrylic. Some of my paintings are watered down to give the texture of watercolors and also look more like pastels. Acrylic is fun to work with and gives gratifying results.
